The carbon footprint of your holiday drinks

I think we can all agree that we Brits know how to enjoy a long weekend in the sun. Whatever your plans, here’s some carbon footprint data to have in mind whilst you keep hydrated this weekend.

You’ll see that if you want to be really kind to the planet you should stick to tap water (your liver will probably thank you for it too).

A pint of tap water: 0.2g CO2e

A tequila shot: 75g CO2e

A can of coke: 170g CO2e

A cappuccino in a takeaway cup: 246g CO2e

1 litre of bottled water: 400g CO2e

A pint of local ale: 650g CO2e

A bottle of foreign beer from the shop: 1kg CO2e

A bottle of French wine: 1.3kg CO2e

A glass of orange juice (250ml): 1.5kg CO2e

A bottle of champagne: 2kg CO2e

For context, a carbon footprint of 500g CO2e is the same as driving 1.7 miles.

Let us know if you’d like to know the carbon footprint of anything else. But as a basic rule, usually the further away your drink’s from, the higher the carbon footprint.

I’ve got a question
